Activated Nut Trail Mix

Activated Nut Trail Mix

GF, DF, LS, PF, DBF, VV   Now you may think it a little odd to go ‘activating your nuts’, but I’m talking about a process used for the purpose of enhancing their nutritional benefits by decreasing levels of a not so healthy compound known as phytic acid. Excess levels of phytic acid from eating too many raw nuts can block the absorption of essential trace minerals like magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc and calcium. So although nuts are a rich source of plant protein and slow burning carbohydrates, they are also high in omega-6 fats, which I mentioned in

Sweet Potato Chips

Sweet Potato Chips

GF, DF, PF, DBF, AC,VV   Yes, even chips are on the EYH menu! But these are baked not fried and made from sweet potato, which is a healthier choice than higher starch white potato. I find these are a great option for when you are weaning off sugar or craving some comfort food but keeping an eye on the waistline! I always bake in virgin coconut oil and season with Himalayan or Celtic sea salt, which is rich in essential trace minerals. Serve on their own or with a little homemade aioli mayonnaise (see recipe page X )

Spicy Kale Chips

Spicy Kale Chips

GF, DF, FF, PF, DBF, AC, VV I fell in love with these when I was looking for a healthy snack, while travelling in the US one year, so I went on a mission to learn how to bake them myself. They are seriously delicious and a far healthier option to those standard high starch fried potato chips laden with artificial flavours and colors. Spicy Kale Chips are the perfect snack when you’re on the run or to pack in the kids lunch box..(They might get some funny looks at first with their green chips, but they’ll be converting schoolmates

Beetroot Cashew & Mint Dip

Beetroot Cashew & Mint Dip

GF, DF, LS, PF, DBF, AC,VV I’m a big fan of preparing your own dips, that way you know exactly what you’re eating and can avoid all the artificial additives commonly found in packaged brands. This dip is a real winner, not only because it tastes delicious, but it can be used in so many dishes to add extra flavor.   Beetroots are also a natural detoxifier and blood purifier and rich in betaine, which can reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure and possess anti-cancer properties, thanks to the powerful phytonutrients that give beetroot its rich crimson colour. They are also

Creamy Cauliflower & Leek Soup

Creamy Cauliflower & Leek Soup

GF, DF, FF, PF, DBF,AC,VV If you’re a fan of potato and leek soup, but would rather avoid the high starch in the potato, then cauliflower comes to the rescue again! In fact you can pretty well substitute any dish that contains potato or rice with cauliflower, thanks to its versatility and delicious creamy texture. . Cauliflower and leeks are also rich in sulphur which helps the body to detoxify heavy metals and works as a natural anti-inflammatory, but remember If you are sensitive to sulfur, then its best to avoid these foods.   What you’ll need… 1 large cauliflower,

Lentil & Vegetable Soup

Alkalising Vegetable Broth

Alkalising Vegetable Broth

GF, DF, FF, PF, DBF, AC, VV Like any broth, vegetable broth makes a hearty and delicious base to any soup, casserole or stir fry, but it’s also highly alkalising to your body, meaning it will help to detoxify your digestive system and reduce systemic inflammation. I use this recipe as part of my Strip Back and Alkalise Cleanse, in conjunction with my Green Goddess vegetable juice.  But it’s also great to keep on hand to drink as an alkalising snack, or in the freezer to use as a base to make soups and stir fries. I like to freeze

Creamy Coconut Zucchini Soup

Creamy Coconut Zucchini Soup

Zucchini’s make a regular appearance in my recipes, not only because they are so versatile and delicious, but also because they are particularly high in fibre and nutrients like vitamin C and manganese. I add them to soups and salads, both raw and cooked and they taste delicious baked or sautéed. The healthy fat from the coconut milk in this soup will leave you feeling more satisfied, making this recipe a healthy choice for lunch or dinner, hot or cold. What you’ll need… 6 – 8 large zucchini’s roughly chopped 2 Tbsp. virgin coconut or macadamia oil for frying

Fennel and Spinach Soup

Fennel and Spinach Soup

GF, DF, FF, PF, DBF,AC,VV   Fennel is great for digestive support and can relieve indigestion / heart burn, gas and bloating, unless you are very sensitive to sulphur, then it may not agree with you. Sulphur is found in a range of foods including leek, garlic, onions, spring onions and shallots. If you have a sensitivity to sulphur, or if these foods cause gastrointestinal upset, then I recommend eliminating them and substituting with other natural flavors such as homemade vegetable or chicken stock, fresh herbs and lemon juice.   What You’ll Need… 125 Grams flat leaf parsley, roughly
